Dead Animal Pickup in a Lancaster Yard
You can see it, you have a fair idea what it is, and you would rather not be the one to lift it. This is the most straightforward version of the job and the quickest to price over the phone.
The usual places
- Against a fence line, foundation wall or retaining wall
- Under a deck, a raised porch or a back step
- In a flowerbed, a window well or a vegetable patch
- Inside a detached garage, barn or shed with a door left open
- In the gap between an outbuilding and a fence
- On a commercial lot, a dumpster pad or a loading area
Do not move it
Shovelling it somewhere else tends to break it up and puts your hands near whatever was feeding on it. Where it is in the way, invert a bin over the spot and leave everything under it alone until somebody arrives.
Skunk is worth flagging
Not because it is heavier, but because of what happens if it is handled badly. Say on the call if that is what you have, and the operator will tell you whether they take it and what it changes. This site does not answer that for them.
A pet is not this
A dog or cat that belongs to somebody is a different call. The Fairfield County Dog Shelter handles dog matters and a veterinarian handles arrangements for a pet.
In the street instead?

Time changes the job
A carcass found the same morning and one that has been under a deck for a week are not handled the same way. What moves the price.
Not quite it?
Deer get separate treatment, mostly on account of weight and getting a vehicle near them. Anything under a roof belongs on inside a building, and an smell with no body attached to it belongs on the smell page.
